2. Endocannabinoid System:
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) deficiency is responsible for regulating thousands of processes in our bodies. There are more cannabinoid receptors in the human brain than all other G protein-coupled receptors, combined.
This ubiquitous system is responsible for maintaining equilibrium and balance of neurotransmission, immune system activation, genetic transcription, and many other processes that affect every system of the body.
When the ECS becomes deficient, it loses the ability to maintain these vital processes, and disease is more likely to occur.
Many conditions involve ECS deficiency, including:
- Epilepsy/seizure disorders
- Certain cancers
- Arthritis/autoimmune conditions
- Neurodegenerative disorders
- Many common immunes, nervous, and chronic pain conditions
- Development disorder
- Sickle Cell Disease

Dr. Exelbert focuses on the endocannabinoid system and how it can affect all aspects of health and well-being. The endocannabinoid system is dynamically involved in all our organ systems and their function.
We work to maximize the efficiency of the endocannabinoid system and if there is a deficiency, a shift, or an imbalance, then Dr. Exelbert will walk you or your child through the process of discerning the right kind of treatment to restore wellness for you or your child. Medical marijuana contains various cannabinoids such as CBD, CBDA, THC, CBG, and CBN to name a few.
There are many signs, symptoms, and disease states that require various combinations of these cannabinoids. Dr. Exelbert will make sure you or your child have the correct combination, the least side effects, and the best products to meet you or your child’s unique scenario. Dr. Exelbert will not leave you or your child misguided, uneducated, or alone in this process. This is the difference between Dr. Exelbert and all the other medical cannabis physicians. This is a team approach, and a goal approach and you the patient are the most vital member of this team.
If THC isn’t right for you, Dr. Exelbert may suggest the use of hemp-derived CBD and other cannabinoids which do not require a medical cannabis card. These products contain absolutely NO THC, but still packs the therapeutic value of cannabinoids and terpenes that interact with the endocannabinoid system.
Dr. Exelbert has worked intimately with all cancer patients, especially pediatric cancer patients who suffer from severe nausea, pain, side effects, weight loss, all related to their therapy. We work to limit the use of medications such as morphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, Zofran, clozapine, and Ativan, to name a few, which all have great medical benefits but a lot of side effects. We work to manipulate the endocannabinoid system so that we can have the same acceptable patient benefit without all the side effects and fatigue. There are no studies, yet which show that medical cannabis cures cancer, however, there are thousands of patients who have used medical cannabis with great success in all aspects of cancer care in all age groups. We are not a replacement for conventional cancer treatment and therapy.
Dr. Exelbert also specializes in complex pain syndromes and using the endocannabinoid system to treat pain. Dr. Exelbert has had great success in transitioning patients off narcotics and benzodiazepines for pain while using alternative medical therapies such as medical cannabis.
